THE FIRM: The firm is known for its excellence in a number of niche areas, including parliamentary work, housing and regeneration, ecclesiastical law, local government, education, charities, licensing, services to the police, and private client work. The private client practice remains strong but it is only one part of the firm?s core practice, which centres around the publicly accountable sector. Public sector know-how provides opportunities for innovative projects which has led to significant growth in our company and commercial law capabilities. For some time now, the firm has been organised on the basis of client sector groups rather than departments based on work types. Each sector group handles the affairs of their client sector thereby allowing the relevant lawyers to gain a better understanding of clients? objectives, needs, operating environment and administrative and political make-up.
AREAS OF WORK:
Commercial: The team advises on commercial and company transactions, acting for new ventures, major quoted groups and established public sector bodies, with a particular specialisation in complex public/private sector partnership deals. PFI/project cases are also undertaken.
Ecclesiastical, Education & Charity: These are traditional areas of practice and developing client sectors. The firm acts for the Church of England, the Roman Catholic Church and the Archbishop of Canterbury and has acted for charities since its earliest days. Education clients include primary and secondary schools and institutions of further and higher education.
Employment: The Employment Team provides contentious and non-contentious employment advice across the firm?s client sectors on all matters from complex reorganisations to day-to-day employment issues.
Housing & Regeneration: The full range of constitutional, property, finance and litigation services are provided to the firm?s many registered social landlord clients and to lenders in the housing sector, house builders and local authorities.
Licensing: The firm has extensive experience in commercial and licensed property, and licensing generally, including the licensing of hotels, pubs, casinos, restaurants, bingo halls and supermarkets.
Litigation & Dispute Resolution: Work in this area is conducted on a client-led basis, whenever possible, with a dedicated team following each particular client sector. A mediation service is also offered. |
