The firm:
The client base is broad, ranging from small to medium-sized private companies to public companies and subsidiaries of multi-nationals. Their activities vary from manufacturing, distribution and retailing to the financial sector, media and entertainment. The firm acts on behalf of banks and venture capitalists and has special knowledge of the ceramics industry, mining, minerals and subsidence matters. The firm also acts for housing associations and individuals and has long-standing relationships with leading law practises in the US, many European countries, Australia and the Far East. The firm adopts a progressive and down-to-earth approach to work.
Corporate Finance/Commercial – all aspects of deal initiation and negotiation, acquisitions, management buy-outs and buy-ins, mergers and takeovers, banking and securities law. All types of commercial matters are dealt with, including conditions of trading, agency and distribution, intellectual property, e-commerce, information technology, pensions and insolvency.
Commercial Property/Development – a full service is offered to clients, including freehold and leasehold acquisitions and disposals, leasing and letting schemes, residential and commercial estate developments and taxation issues. On development matters the department in conjunction with the Planning and Environmental Department offers a unique ‘one-stop’ service of site appraisal/acquisition, obtaining planning permission, site marketing, sale negotiation and disposal. The department has established contacts with many major land developers.
Planning and Environmental Department – this is a specialist unit which advises on a wide range of matters often in conjunction with the Commercial Property Department.
Dispute Resolution Department – advices on all kinds of commercial contractual disputes, property disputes, building and civil engineering cases, shareholder disputes and professional and other negligence claims. The department adopts a proactive approach to dispute resolution and has invested heavily in information technology.
Employment Department – deals with all aspects of the relationship between employers and employees from beginning to end. The unit also undertakes training seminars and workshops for in-house solicitors and personnel departments on employment law and human resources issues.
Private client services are also provided, including pension fund administration, asset management, tax planning, wills and trusts.
