Web Profile: Laytons is a client-committed commercial law firm operating as a single national team through three offices nationwide. We focus on providing dynamic businesses with practical and effective legal advice which is technically excellent, innovative and insightful. We offer our clients: - positive, practical advice wich is both of high technical quality and commercially effective; - high quality service - provided when and where the client needs it; - core team and consistent points of contact - the core team works closely with the client over the lifetime of the relationship and deals personally with matters within their field of expertise. We believe in long-term relationships - we are "client lawyers" rather than "transaction lawyers". It is the essence of our relationship that we are close to our clients and understand their business needs and objectives. International advice is a natural part of our commercial capability and is provided partly from the UK offices and partly through associated overseas law firms. PRINCIPAL AREAS OF WORK: Our CORPORATE AND COMMERCIAL Group advises a strong client base of mid-corporate and other dynamic businesses, with a particular emphasis on technology based companies; in addition to corporate transactions and advice, commercial agreements, joint ventures and similar work for businesses, the Group advises on private equity investment and secured lending. A substantial amount of its work relates to technology transfer and related intellectual property issues, whilst its highly regarded IP, TECHNOLOGY AND MEDIA GROUP includes several lawyers with backgrounds in science and engineering and is especially strong in the areas of acquisition, protection, licensing and enforcement of intellectual property. We also have a CORPORATE TAX specialism advising on areas such as corporation, employment and property taxation, custom duties and VAT. Our CORPORATE RECOVERY AND INSOLVENCY teams advise insolvency practitioners and those in financial difficulty, particularly on all aspects of corporate recovery and turnaround. The EMPLOYMENT GROUP undertakes a full remit of Employment work including HR advice, termination, discrimination, enforcement, work permits, executive remuneration, TUPE, share related and other incentives and benefits including PENSIONS. Laytons' COMMERCIAL PROPERTY GROUP includes LAND DEVELOPMENT and CONSTRUCTION. In addition to serving the commercial property needs of our clients generally this Group also acts as project solicitors for a number of land development consortia and undertakes portfolio management and environmental services law. The Firm's ESTATE PLANNING, ADMINISTRATION AND TRUST GROUP provides a comprehensive and specialist service concentrating on the traditional areas of private client work, both non-contentious and contentious, and on all aspects of CHARITY LAW including tax, fundraising and trading issues. Working closely alongside is our FAMILY GROUP which has an impressive track record for its work in high value, complex divorce cases involving issues such as ownership of companies and rights to pensions, and the complexities of finance and planning to safeguard the future of clients and their dependants. DISPUTE RESOLUTION is provided as an integral part of our service accross all practice areas. In addition we have a specialist Dispute Resolution team with expert skills in areas such as UK/International mediation, litigation and arbitration, insurance and professional negligence, product safety and debt recovery.
