| Web Profile: |
This Isle of Man firm is known for its expertise in commercial and civil litigation, including financial services legislation and international asset claims. It also handles general commercial work, crime, family and other private client matters.
Mark Moroney established himself in private practice 30 years ago and worked entirely on his own account from 1983 onwards. Louise C. Byrne joined the firm in 1991. Together they offer a highly personalised and attentive service of the highest quality. Clients include prominent business people, companies and financial institutions as well as domestic and overseas public bodies. Both advocates attach great importance to training and academic excellence. Byrne obtained an LL.B degree and regularly attends legal conferences. Byrne has been on the Council of the Isle of Man Law Society and a member of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Panel. Moroney holds a first class degree from Oxford University. He is a fellow of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies of London University and a fellow by examination of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Moroney was called to the English Bar in 1969 and Byrne was admitted as an English Solicitor in 1999. The firm has recently been joined by Jenny Holt (Advocate from September 2006). Jenny graduated from Oxford University and is a member of the English Bar (Lincoln’s Inn).
The firm offers a wide range of commercial opinions for lending institutions on property in the Isle of Man, the UK and worldwide. Advice is given regarding a range of commercial contracts and corporate service providers are offered advice on regulatory, general legal and employment issues. Directors’ disqualification proceedings and advice on directors’ duties is a particular specialism. Legal representation and advice regarding disclosure of information in criminal and civil proceedings worldwide are also given. Advice on all aspects of trusts has been an integral part of the practice since its inception. Commercial litigation services include timeshare, planning, substantial cases involving assistance and breach of trust, class actions against constructive trustees and actions for companies and individuals regarding their rights in relation to the government and regulatory authorities. The firm acts for insurers and others in professional negligence.
The practice has considerable expertise in private international law and has conducted litigation on the enforcement of proceedings in and from other jurisdictions. The firm has been involved in a number of Petitions to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council since 1998.
Byrne is one of the leading litigation practitioners on the Isle of Man. She has been involved in several high profile cases and has successfully conducted major criminal fraud proceedings. Byrne now specialises in matrimonial and family proceedings, particularly complex financial family litigation (her current focus of work is high net worth family/litigation). Private client work includes probate, trusts, family law and conveyancing.
The practice intends to strengthen its existing diverse services and will continue to provide advice and representation of the highest calibre. Jenny Holt conducts general commercial and civil litigation specialising in Intellectual Property, especially copyright and trust litigation. |
