The firm of Benest & Syvret was created on 1st October 1997 when the two practices of Becquet & Syvret and Advocate F.J. Benest merged.
The firm of Becquet & Syvret emerged from the practice established by the late Mr. Charles W. Binet who, on his death, was succeeded by the late Mr. Edgar J. Becquet. Mr. Kenneth W. Syvret M.B.E., joined Mr. Becquet as a partner in 1969.
The practice of Advocate F.J. Benest was established in 1979. Advocate Frederick Benest continued as a sole practitioner serving local clients from his offices in the Royal Square until the merger of his firm with Becquet & Syvret. Advocate Benest's practice maintained a long tradition of legal practice in the Benest family, his father Advocate H.V. Benest having served the Royal Court as H.M. Viscount and his great-uncle Snowdon Benest, a solicitor, having been the founding partner of another legal practice Crill and Benest.
Both firms concentrated on providing a service to the community acting for successive generations of local families. Benest & Syvret have retained that tradition, specialising in general private client work. The partnership now comprises Mr. Philip W. Syvret who is Mr. Kenneth W. Syvret's son and who joined his father in practice in 1994, Advocate Frederick Benest and daughter Advocate Nina Benest who joined the firm at its inception on 1st October 1997. Mr. Kenneth Syvret has now retired from the partnership but still acts as consultant to the firm. Benest & Syvret is perhaps uniquely placed to serve the Island's community given the strong family connections within the firm.
The firm provides expertise in criminal and civil litigation, conveyancing and commercial property transactions, wills, estate work and probates (including fast track probate applications), personal injury and clinical negligence work, employment issues, matrimonial and family law together with all other areas of private client and general practice work. |
